Desk Report:
Apple is not just building a fancy chatbot like ChatGPT for its own customers, but for itself. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple engineers are using this secret tool to test various features of future Siri updates. It is essentially an experimental app, which hints at major changes to Siri.
Apple’s chatbot is codenamed ‘Veritas’. It is basically an advanced chatbot. It is preparing the ground for engineers to build the next generation of Siri. Veritas can analyze personal information such as emails, music libraries, etc. Not only that, it can also work within the app. For example, editing photos or changing settings.
The design of this chatbot is similar to other known chatbot apps. It can chat on various topics, remember previous conversations, and carry on long and natural conversations.
Behind Veritas is Apple’s new framework ‘Linwood’. It is made up of Apple’s own LLM (Large Language Model) and some external AI partner technologies.
Goodbye to the old Siri, LLM-powered Siri is coming
Apple started working on the new Siri since the arrival of iOS 18. Initially, there was a plan to launch a feature called ‘Apple Intelligence Siri’, but it was postponed due to its failure to meet the set standards. In the end, Apple scrapped the old foundation and started building Siri on a completely new structure.
This new Siri will no longer just answer simple questions. Apple is making Siri in such a way that it can easily talk for a long time, give natural responses like a human, and understand complex tasks well. In other words, Apple is trying to bring Siri in a completely new form.
Users will have to wait until early 2026 to get this update. Siri 2.0 is likely to arrive in March with the iOS 26.4 update. It is going to be released a year later than planned. Because the company is reluctant to launch an incomplete AI.
Visual changes are also coming
Not just features, Siri 2.0 may feature a new ‘humanoid’ or human-like appearance. Apple may unveil this new look of Siri by the end of 2025. The new Siri’s appearance may have an iconic and familiar design like the Mac’s ‘Finder’ logo.
Despite emphasizing its own innovation in the field of AI, Apple is walking a different path this time. Bloomberg reports that it has already discussed the possibility of using technology from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google in Siri. This means that the Siri of 2026 may not be entirely made by Apple.
Currently, only Apple’s own engineers can use this new Siri.
